We are delighted to announce a special addition to the live auction on May 31, 2026 — a compilation of seventeen artifacts from the estate of Canadian author Farley Mowat. These remarkable pieces are among a larger collection deaccessioned from the Port Hope Public Library. (Members: stay tuned for more information about the remaining collection.) Phone bids accepted at 905.376.1056 or 905.375. 8644.
These items will be placed for auction at high noon (12pm), at our live auction at the Town Park Recreation Centre in Port Hope. Items includes artifacts from Mowat’s personal office — even his pipe — along with books, posters, artwork, and photographs reflecting his lifelong connection to nature, boats, and storytelling.
Farley Mowat moved to Port Hope in 1967 — arriving, fittingly, by boat — and remained here until his death in 2014. Port Hope has honoured this resident in it’s dedication of the “Mowat Boat-RoofedHouse,” a unique stone monument inspired by the vessel described in his book The Farfarers.
This generous sampling of memorabilia is a thrilling addition to what is already shaping up to be a wonderful auction, and we are honoured to help share this unique piece of Port Hope and Canadian literary history.
